PADDLERS from all over the Philippines are expected to be in Cebu on the first week of December to take part in the Kayak Explore Cebu-Bohol Crossing.
The event will be a three-day (Dec. 4 to 6) 125-km kayak race to be held simultaneously with a flotilla of island hopping eco-adventure tours. The kayak marathon will have three classes, the sit-in tandem, the sit-on-top tandem and the Singles Open.
The race will push off from Mactan Island and head towards Olango Island, then Getafe Bohol and to the finish line at the Bohol Beach Club in Panglao, Bohol.
Stop-over or sleep-over locations will be in Tubigon and Maribojoc towns, Bohol.
The team with the shortest total time accumulated during the three-day leg will be declared the winner.
Champions in the tandem categories will be given P20,000 while the second and third finishers will get P15,000 and P10,000, respectively.
First prize in the singles category is P10,000 while the second and third finishers will get P7,500 and P5,000, respectively.
Entry fee is pegged at P900 per person/participant to be paid upon submission of entry/registration form.
A kayak clinic and a 5-km novice race will also be held.
The flotilla, on the other hand, will be for pre-booked tourists, sight seers and race supporters who will be riding bancas following the route of the paddlers and stopping at eco-cultural tourism sites and attractions in the coastal communities along the way.
Registration will be held a day before the scheduled start of the race wherein activities such as “Cebu in Action” and “A Night with Kayakers” will also be held.
The Cebu-Bohol Islands Crossing will be the culminating activity of the three-leg Philippine Kayaking Series with the first and second legs held in Hundred islands and Corregidor earlier this year.
For further details, interested participants can call (0915) 435-9321 or (0918) 925-8713 or email to philkayaking@yahoo.com./
